I'm super excited about the new
study Bible I bought.
This is my old study Bible.
I like it a lot.
And referred to it often.
So much so, that it became a bit overwhelmed.
And weighted down with notes and tabs and such.
And a bit tattered.
But that's not why I got a new one.
I actually kind of like when a Bible gets well worn and comfortable. Sort of like an old friend.
I got the new study Bible because of the amazing explanatory notes it has before each book and within the text.
I just think it will help illuminate God's word for me in a way the old study Bible couldn't.
But that doesn't mean I won't miss my old Bible. And pick it up now and then.
Speaking of Bibles, pictures of the previously unphotographed Gutenberg Bible are part of the stunning photo essay that make up the book Biblio.
Photographer Natasha D'Schommer, who happens to be from Minneapolis, lovingly captured what is likely the most expensive book on the market today (the Gutenberg not Biblio). It was first substantial book printed with movable type in the 1400's.
Biblio also includes photos of J.S. Bach's Cantata No. 33 and Emily Dickinson's chocolate recipe.
It's a beautiful book, worthy of coffee table placement.
And it could be yours.

What is your favorite book in the Bible?
Ruth is my favorite book. It's my Mother's name, it's my oldest daughter's name (she's 3), and I just LOVE the story of Naomi and Ruth. It is, for me, one of the most touching stories of the love a Daughter-In-Law, and Mother-In-Law should have. The feeling of family. I just love Ruth, it's my absolute favorite!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book in the Bible? Proverbs!
ReplyDeleteI never tire of the Psalms. Music to my ears and heart.
ReplyDeleteThis book would be treasured.
Isaiah
ReplyDeleteActs. Is that weird? Everywhere you look in Acts the early Church is increasing in numbers. That was such an encouragement as I volunteered in youth ministry and my husband actually worked as a Youth Director.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could name a favorite book, since it's so hard to compare the different sytles, but when I was a child I loved the Old Testament history books with all the stories of the kings, etc.
ReplyDeleteI just love the book of James. No matter what version of the Bible I read, I always find new practical advice for everyday living in James. While I also love Proverbs, I feel like James carries out the thoughts and advice into detail, while Proverbs gives you the little snippets. Just my opinion, anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteFavorite book is Psalms. I was told once that reading the book of Psalms is like eating potato chips. "you never stop after one!"
ReplyDelete1 John would have to be one of my favorites. It's very difficult to choose, though :)
ReplyDeleteI delight in the Psalms too!
